Pentire
Alcohol-free botanical spirits from the Cornish coast
Pentire set out to bottle the North Cornwall coastline. It was founded in 2019 by Alistair Frost, a Polzeath surf instructor who had spent years representing premium spirits in London and wanted a sophisticated drink for a life lived outdoors, without the alcohol. From a base in Port Isaac, and named after the Pentire headland, the brand distils plants foraged from the local clifftops into a drink that tastes of exactly where it comes from.
Every bottle is distilled and finished by hand with no added sugar, artificial colours, or artificial flavours. The botanicals are coastal and green: foraged plants such as rock samphire, sage, and sea buckthorn, with a lift of citrus, giving a crisp, herbaceous character that stands in naturally for gin in a long drink. Strictly 0.0% ABV.
The range runs to two. Adrift is the original: dry, grassy, and savoury, closest to a classic gin and tonic. Seaward is brighter and zestier, led by pink grapefruit and sea buckthorn. Serve either over plenty of ice, topped with a light tonic, with a sprig of rosemary or a wedge of grapefruit.
